Jackson...How does your garden grow?

Earlier this summer Jackson and I planted an ordinary kidney bean in a plastic cup to see if it would grow. We learned that seeds need good dirt as well as lots of sunlight & water to grow. Our little science project was a success, boy did our little kidney beans grow. The outgrew their cup so Jackson & his dad transplanted them into some dirt in the backyard. Soon we noticed that our bean plants had sprouted bean pods. So on Saturday we picked the bean pods and looked inside to find perfect little kidney beans. Jackson was brave and decided to try the fruits of his labor. I think you can guess by the picture how well that turned out.

Looks like he really enjoyed the bean! What a very successful project! Next year we're going to have to try it out. What did you do with the rest of the beans? Are you going to dry them out and start again next year? :) That would be REALLY ambitious!! :)

beyond eating them we didn't think that far. If Jackson has not completely disposed of all the beans by now we should for sure try to grow it again next year. Next year we may have to be really ambitious and try to plant a garden or it least a container garden and see what kindof harvest we can get. My luck if put forth a real effort we won't get anything near as successful as our science experiment bean plant.

You need to be really, really careful eating a raw kidney bean. They can actually be toxic when uncooked. Don't mean to frighten you, but my son is pretty much a raw vegetarian and I had to be careful that he didn't eat those raw. I ate one and had gastro-instestinal distress for over a day.
