Labor Day at Antelope Island

We spent our Labor Day at Antelope Island. As soon as we started across the causeway Jackson smelled the lake's unique aroma immediately and said "Oooo Bay and No you stink!" We got a kick out of that & on any other day he probably would have been right.

We headed over to the Garr Ranch to have a picnic with Nana, Papa and all our cousins. To our surprise they had all sorts of fun activities going on and Jackson was able to dip his own candle. He thought this was really cool. We had our picnic (while fighting swarms of bugs & trying to keep the twins in one general area, both were a losing battle) and then Jackson walked out to see the buffalo with his Papa and cousins. The kids had a blast!

The only not so pleasant part of our outing were the bugs. Apparently very few things live in the lake besides brine shrimp and brine flies. I don't know exactly what was flying around but they were big and they had a nasty bite. For some reason they really liked Doug. You can't tell from this really bad picture but the bite was big and it bled a ton right after it happened.

We thought we would head back over to the beach and let the kids wade and throw rocks. But once we got to the beaches we discovered that the water level is so low that from the parking lot you have to walk it least 1/2 a mile to the waters edge. The kids were all up for it the adults were a little less enthusiastic. It was hot and the babies were very grumpy so after a half hearted attempt we decided to call it a day and pray for rain so next year we can come back and hopefully find the waters edge a little closer.

After a long day we headed home. All of us were tuckered out....except Noah it seems.
